1.Central Braille Press

Dehradun holds the distinction of housing India’s first Braille Press. Established in 1951, the press has printed out more than 30,000 copies of reading material for the blind. The press is still manually operated to this day and open for visitors. You should consider visiting the press for an offbeat experience.

2.Inspiration for many eminent personalities

Celebrities like Ruskin Bond, Bill Acne, David Cling and Nayantara Sahgal live in the city. All these people were born somewhere else but moved to Dehradun region because of its richness. The city has given birth to many famous people like Anita Desai, Neha Kakkar, Kulraj Randhawa to name a few.

3.Sahastradhara with healing properties.

Located 18km away from Dehradun, Sahastradhara is a famous tourist attraction known for its caves and waterfalls. Sahastradhara, meaning streams, is a large collection of water pools, where water drips from the stalactites to form Sulphur springs. These Sulphur springs have medicinal properties which can heal anyone suffering from ailments like muscle ache, poor blood circulation, acne and even arthritis. There is even  a ropeway near Sahastradhara, which takes tourists to a high point from where they can relish the panoramic view of the nearby surroundings.

4.Guru Dronacharya lived in the city.

According to Hindu mythology, Guru Dronacharya, who was the teacher of the great archer Arjuna, made his abode in the Doon Valley. This is the reason that the Doon Valley is often referred to as Dronagiri.

5. Land of the Litchis

Besides the enchanting views of Himalayan foothills, Dehradun is also known for being the producer of Litchis of finest quality. Taking an excursion to a Litchi orchard is a must do activity while you are in Dehradun.
